Seascape paintings bring feelings of freedom that is usually linked to being present in the open space. Coastlines, beaches, sea waves and sailboats are the main subjects. Paintings of colorful sailboats in the horizon and quiet coastlines can add a sense of calmness and a state of serenity and peace.
Ocean paintings focus on the coastlines as the main subject. Marine paintings give more attention to ships and sailboats. Creating this type of paintings requires acrylic or oil paints, a palette knife to add texture, some brushes and a knowledge how to work with light and shadow to create depth. My sailboats paintings & yachts are not realistic but rather abstract, as I focus on the overall look and feel of the vast oceans and not on the small details of how the sailboats look.
An example of a contemporary seascape art is the masterwork of the artist Richard Diebenkorn. His painting 'Ocean Horizon' shows a unique and contemporary vision of and ocean. The composition is very simple with layers of land, sea and sky. Another example is 'The Wave' by Katsushika Hokusai which offers a mystical vision of a giant wave painted like a claw.
